Training completed and looking for clients!

I’ve just completed my doula and level 1 childbirth training classes with DONA! This means I can begin to work as a doula as I work towards certification. Certification involves reading some books, writing a paper, creating resource lists, attending three births, and receiving recommendations from pregnant people and caregivers I work with.

So! If you or someone you know is a pregnant person who might be interested in a doula for their birth and live in Brooklyn or Manhattan, I’ll be doing my first births at no- to low-cost ($0 – $500) based on services needed and financial means. Please see the services page on this website for more details.

I happily work with all types of births and all types of families and individuals. However, because of my own community affiliations, I am particularly interested in serving queer families, poly families, and families with adults or children who are autistic or have other related sensory needs/concerns. If you’ve been uncertain about hiring a doula, let’s talk; maybe I can help.

Welcome!

Do you know how hard it is to avoid puns about birthing pains or transitions when trying to figure out what to say on a very first post on a doula blog? Very hard, and I don’t even like puns.

So, I’m training to become a doula. My first major coursework, a DONA Birth Doula Training is happening in late April at Park Slope’s Birthday Presence. Meanwhile I also participate in the Full Spectrum Doula Circle and other virtual and in person events. I hope to also complete training with INELDA regarding end of life care later this year.

At this site, I plan to blog about my experiences with this process. As I move further along in this adventure, I may also start some online discussion groups exploring various issues relevant to the communities and individuals I hope to serve.

As a native New Yorker, I have a direct, storytelling communication style. I tell stories in hopes that you will tell stories. My comments are open to whatever you’d like to add to the discussion.
